Snooki, JWoWW, Sammi & 'nem are heading to Italy meanwhile the "Shore" is heading to the UK as well. The Brit's don't want the US to have all the fun and who can blame them? We've gotten numerous shows from the UK that have become pretty popular on this side of the pond. For example: The Office, Shameless, Dancing with the Stars, Big Brother, and more have all come to the US as imports from our English speaking friends!
First up, the cast of Jersey Shore is going to the motherland. Their motherland to be exact, Italy!
Yes, yesss, y'all -- the rumors on TMZ are true. "Jersey Shore" will be shooting its fourth season in ITALY! According to an official hot-off-the-press release from our employer, the entire cast and crew of MTV's wildly popular hit show will be trading in their shot-filled road trips to Seaside Heights for a sure-to-be mini bottle-laden plane ride to their homeland.
While "Jersey Shore" is a popular program internationally, there are bound to be plenty of people oblivious to "The Situation" and his colorful cronies, as well as the circus of debauchery they bring with them to every locale. Who knows how the OGs of Italy will react to our self-proclaimed guidos and guidettes? Luckily, Vinny's got some relatives (wait, there's more of them?!) who'll be nearby to offer up heaps of comfort food and some guidance on the cultural ways of "the old country."
The show is slated to film in spring 2011 and air later on this year.
"While the stateside 'Jersey Shore' locales have become iconic for our audience, it’s really the constantly evolving dynamic among the cast that keeps them coming back each season, and Europe is a fresh spin on a show that continues to reach new heights for us," said Chris Linn, executive vice president of programming and head of production for MTV. "The cast is headed to the birthplace of the culture they love and live by. We can’t wait to see what erupts as a result."
As far as the UK version of Jersey Shore, they're going for the same effect. Below is the description from MTV. SN: Cockney accent in the UK is similar to that of the Jersey accent in the US. Its not the accent of more "refined" speakers.
"Jersey Shore" has inspired a smattering of wannabe spin-offs on other networks, which is both flattering for the cast and awesome for us because we're reality TV junkies. But now the people that started it all is adding its own "Shore"-esque series to the mix! MTV Networks UK just announced that they've started production on a brand new reality series entitled "Geordie Shore," which for those of you that haven't crossed The Pond yet (Pond = The Atlantic Ocean), is the city of Newcastle. Just imagine: Cheesy pickup lines spoken in a Cockney accent!
"It's fantastic that the UK is going to be the first international MTV territory to take inspiration from the cultural phenomenon that is Jersey Shore and re-imagine it for a UK audience. Newcastle is an amazing city with a culture and ethos of its own," said Kerry Taylor, Acting SVP, Director of Television, MTV Networks UK & Ireland.
